Taylor Swift Looks So Un-Swiftlike In This Outfit

Although Taylor Swift is no fan extravagant displays like Katy Perry or Lady Gaga, when she performs we've come to expect a certain amount of glitter. So it was a total surprise when Swift wore an all-black outfit for a performance, and she was almost unrecognizable. In the video, Swift plays a stripped-down acoustic version of "Wildest Dreams" at the Clive Davis Theater, Idolator reports. Her style is toned down to match. Wearing just a pair of tights and a turtleneck, Swift looks every bit a singer-songwriter. As fun as it is to attend an arena performance with 50,000 other fans, it's refreshing to see Swift performing in such an intimate arena. After all, she rose to stardom by writing her own music, and those talents are put on display here.

Swift jet-set across the globe on her mind-meltingly popular 1989 tour for most of 2015, and she wore her fair share of sparkly costumes. (Though she has come a long way since the Nashville-tastic looks she wore at the start of her career.) What sets this look apart is how much of a departure it is from her usual glitz. It's all her and that guitar. Take a look at the video:

Even her makeup and hair is pared-down.

I'd love to see more of this side of Taylor Swift, though now that she's no longer touring, I assume she's working night and day on her next album (please?). To tide us over, here's a review of some of her best (meaning: most glittery) costumes of late.

Swift wore this appropriately festive look for a holiday performance.
