'Game Of Thrones' Just Delivered Some Huge News

by Courtney Lindley

Something big has just happened. Like, huge. GIGANTIC. That is, if you're a Game of Thrones fan, anyway: Via their official Facebook page, Game of Thrones has released the Season 6 premiere date, after months of speculation and vague promises of new episodes in "the spring." Brace yourselves, fans, because the following set of numbers are the only set of numbers you need to remember for the rest of the year (forget your social security number, phone number, mom's birthday, forget everything): Four. Twenty-four. Sixteen. That's right: Game of Thrones Season 6 will premiere on April 24, 2016.

Quick confession: Based on this piece of information, I immediately began theorizing and speculating about Season 7. (I can't be the only one...right? Knowledge is power, people.) But guess what? That's not actually a crazy thought. If we look at the average wait time between GoT seasons, we actually might be able to deduce when Season 7 might premiere! Which would be ideal, because then we would have not one, but two premieres to look forward to. Let's crunch the numbers shall we?

OK, so, the first Game of Thrones season premiered on April 17, 2011. Season 2 premiered April 1, 2012. Season 3 premiered March 31, 2013. Season 4 was April 6, 2014. Season 5 was April 12, 2015. And now, Season 6 of Game of Thrones will be back on April 24, 2016. What does it all mean? Is there a connection here? Some kind of algorithm that we can latch onto and use to speculate future seasons until the end of time?

Well, the time between Seasons 1 and 2 was 350 days. Between Seasons 2 and 3, it was 364 days. The difference between Seasons 3 and 4 was 371. And the difference between Seasons 4 and 5 was also 371 days. Curious! The difference between Seasons 5 and 6, however, will be 378 days.

Because it deviates too far from the rest of the numbers, let's remove the time between Season 1 and 2 — shows often change their scheduling format after the first season anyway. Same page? Cool. Now we have 364, 371, 371, and 378. If we take the average of these four numbers, we get ... 371. (What is with this number? Did I just uncover some sort of conspiracy?) If Season 7 premieres 371 days after Season 6, then it could premiere April 30, 2017. Which is a Sunday! This all make so much sense now. (Side bar: does it freak anyone else out that there's a "3", "7" and "1" in this date? No? Just me?)

Anyway, from this logic, I think we can safely say that Season 7 might premiere on April 30, 2017. CALLING IT NOW. Thank you for being here through this journey with me, thank you to whoever taught me rudimentary math, and you're welcome for putting in all the work.

See you on April 30, 2017! But first, April 24, 2016. Told you not to forget. (That was a test.)
