This Is 'The Lena Dunham Of Couches'

by Lia Beck

A New York man, Mickey Dwyer, wanted to sell his couch, but for him a Craigslist ad featuring the usual good price and crappy picture wasn't enough. He needed more. He needed something to make this couch stand out from all the other possibly fornicated-on couches of Brooklyn Craigslist and what he decided on was brilliant. Dwyer decided to call his sofa "the Lena Dunham of couches" and eventually Dunham ended up trying to help him sell it.

The title of Dwyer's Craigslist ad (which is currently still listed) is "Just A Very Real and Relatable Couch - $200." The hilarious post reads,

Selling a classy beautiful sexy REAL and relatable couch that's comfortable. This is basically the Lena Dunham of couches. This is just..like a couch I don't know why everything needs a label like we're fruit or something and you just have to pick them off or sometimes you swallow them and don't even notice. Is it OKAY for us to talk about a regular and normal couch being sexy? Can we recognize that? It's a real couch being a real couch and we don't see much of that in living rooms. Finally, a couch that is just like a couch you know or grew up with but it's new and it's okay for this couch to be pretty and sexual and everyone doesn't have to freak out about it. I think that couches get stuck in a vortex of comfort vs. sexuality and it's all just...life. And we need to get over it.$200 it's yours. Got it Macy's for over $800 less than two years ago. XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXO

Apparently humor doesn't sell couches anymore, because no one took him up on the offer. Dwyer then turned to Twitter, as one does, and asked Lena Dunham for help.

And then Lena Dunham retweeted him and the couch was instantly sold!

Just kidding. Dunham did retweet Dywer, but it didn't end up helping. According to his Twitter, Dwyer ended up selling the "classy beautiful sexy REAL" sofa to someone who didn't even know about the Dunham retweet.
