Caitlyn Jenner Announces An Upcoming Memoir

According to a recent report from the Los Angeles Times, a Caitlyn Jenner memoir is coming out in Spring 2017. Jenner will co-write her book with help from Friday Night Lights author Buzz Bissinger. Bissinger also penned the famous Vanity Fair cover story that announced the completion of Jenner's transition in June 2015.

Jenner has spent the last 40 years in the spotlight. In 1976, she won the Olympic gold medal for the decathlon. Fifteen years later, she married Kris Kardashian, née Houghton. Kris was already mother to three soon-to-be-famous daughters — Kourtney, Kim, and Khloé — and the Jenners would go on to have two children — Kendall and Kylie — together. (In case you somehow missed the Internet and TV in the past five years.) In 2007, the E! network series Keeping Up with the Kardashians made Jenner famous for a new generation.

Although the announcement of a Caitlyn Jenner memoir is exciting, it's unlikely to be without controversy. Jenner has come under fire for the irresponsible statements she has made as the media's face of the trans* community, including her now-infamous "man in a dress" interview. She has since apologized for many of these missteps.

Jenner's fame will undoubtedly bring a flurry of media coverage, but it's always important to remember that there are plenty of great LGBTQIA memoirs already out there. Jenner's story will be original and interesting because it is her own, not just because she is trans*.

Grand Central will publish the as-yet-untitled Caitlyn Jenner memoir in Spring 2017.
