Jess Tackles Jury Duty On 'New Girl'

What is a show without its main star? That's something New Girl is about to find out. With Zooey Deschanel currently on maternity leave, Tuesday night's episode "Jury Duty" served as Jess' temporary departure from New Girl , so it'll be interesting to see what the series (and characters) are like without her. But just because we won't see our beloved Miss Day for a while, that doesn't mean her storyline can't still progress in an intriguing way — especially now that Jess has met Daniel, the charming prosecutor played by John Cho.

You see, the whole cause for Jess' departure is due to the fact that she's been sequestered for her jury duty case and has to remain in isolation for at least a month. But given that Daniel is the acting prosecutor on the case, I have to imagine that they'd be seeing quite a bit of each other throughout that time. Now, admittedly, I've always been a huge Nick and Jess supporter, but even I can't deny the palpable chemistry that existed between these two characters. So I wouldn't be all that surprised (or disappointed) if Jess were to eventually return to the loft with a boyfriend.

I mean, think about it — they're both passionate about performing their civic duty for America (though Jess didn't do a very good job of showing it due to outside work temptations). They're both quirky and lovable. And did I mention the whole adorable flirty thing? (He even wrote his name and number on her coffee cup.) Basically, their interaction was way too cute to have it not lead to something. As of now it's unclear of whether or not Cho's character will come back when Jess does, but she's gone until March. A lot could happen between now and then.

So while I still firmly believe that Nick and Jess are endgame, I'm certainly not opposed to seeing where this potential thing with Daniel leads. After all, what happens in jury duty doesn't necessarily have to stay in jury duty... right?
