Whether you prefer your pits smelling like flowers or just want something that will keep you from sweating so much, picking the right deodorant can be tricky when there are so many options. Fortunately, the list below will help you learn how to choose the best deodorant for whatever your needs are. I can't promise all of them won't leave any white marks, but luckily getting rid of deodorant stains is a breeze.

First thing's first: I want to break down the difference between deodorant and antiperspirants (because yes, there's a diff!). GQ put it best and most simply, saying, "Deodorants fight odor by killing the bacteria that makes sweat smelly. Antiperspirants stop wetness by blocking your sweat ducts, usually with aluminum salts."

If you've encountered any of those articles that discuss the possibility of aluminum in antiperspirants and their ability to cause breast cancer, take a breather. Some studies have attempted to link the two, but far more research is needed and the American Cancer Society deems antiperspirants safe.

As for how to pick the best deodorant for your pits personally, there are several factors to consider. Scroll on to determine exactly what deodorant, antiperspirant, or combo product is right for you and your needs!

1. Your Main Concern Is Sweat

Dry Idea Unscented Anti-Perspirant, $4, Walmart

If your pits never get particularly smelly (lucky you), but you're concerned with sweat, antiperspirant is your best bet! I'd still go scented, just because I love smelling fab, but the above is a totally unscented, straight-up antiperspirant.

2. Your Main Concern Is Smelling Good

Tom's Lavender Deodorant, $6, Amazon

If you don't really sweat, a pure deodorant might be the way to go. There's a world of scents out there, so sniff around to find your favorite!

3. You Want Something Really, Really Strong

Drysol Extra Strength Liquid, $26, Drysol

Are your pits smelly and sweaty to the point you feel like they're limiting you from being your happy, wonderful self? Consider chatting with a doc about a prescription-strength deodorant and antiperspirant.

4. You Want To Keep Things Natural

Deodorant Cream, $12, Osmia Organics

All about that green life? There's a ton of great natural and organic deodorant options, and you can find them online, at Whole Foods or Trader Joe's, and probably even your local co-op.

5. You Don't Mind Having To Clean White Marks Occasionally

Secret Invisible Solid Powder Fresh, $5, Amazon

If you don't mind cleaning up the occasional white mark, then good ol' super affordable drugstore brand deodorants might be the best fit for you. They work well, don't cost much, and often smell super great!

6. You Hate The Thought Of Cleaning White Marks

Lafe's Natural Body Deodorant Spray, $6, Amazon

If you're like oh hell no to any white marks ever, then sprays or gels might be a better fit for you! Once you know whether or not you want an antiperspirant, deodorant, or combo, you'll be able to narrow down and find the best fit.

7. You Just Want To Know My Favorite Deodorant

Lavanila The Healthy Deodorant, $14, Sephora

As a lady that's tested many, many deodorants, I've settled on LAVANILA brand as my favorite. There's a vanilla grapefruit one that I keep regularly stocked in my bathroom.
