J. Law Makes A Truly Massive Donation

by Michelle McGahan

Jennifer Lawrence is many things: Academy Award-winning actor, Katniss Everdeen, imaginary best friend of the people of the Internet. And now Lawrence is also a $2 million donor to the Kosair Children's Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky (her hometown) — a generous gift that is "expected to nearly complete $25 million in fundraising toward a new cardiac intensive care unit and renovation of an existing children's-only critical care center," the Courier-Journal reports. J. Law made the announcement herself in a video that also reveals the cardiac ICU will be named after her.

"I'm excited to announce that we will be establishing the Jennifer Lawrence Foundation Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at Kosair Children's Hospital. As part of my effort to help these children and caregivers, I challenge the entire community to get behind this cause and help match my gift by raising an additional $2 million to support all of these brave and inspiring children," Lawrence said in the video, which you can watch below. (You can donate here.)

It's an incredibly generous and significant chunk of money, one that proves that Lawrence is not only giving to those who need it, but that she is still so connected with her hometown.

Of course, this isn't the first time that the actor has showed the world how much her hometown roots are still so embedded in her everyday life. Take, for example, her friend Andy Strunk, who the star has known since middle school. Strunk, who has Down syndrome and is a huge fan of Lawrence's, made headlines in 2013 for his constant support of the actor. In turn, Lawrence visits Strunk whenever she's back in Louisville and even poses with him on the red carpet at events.

Lawrence will forever be one of Louisville's most famous citizens, and now, with her $2 million donation to Kosair Children's Hospital (and an ICU in her name), her legacy will forever live on in the Bluegrass State.
