Donald Trump Addressed The Wall, Of Course

by Lauren Holter

During Thursday night's 10th GOP debate, Donald Trump responded to former Mexican president Vicente Fox, who blasted the Republican's plan to build a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border. Two former presidents of Mexico said this week that their country would never pay for a wall between the U.S. and Mexico — Fox, in particular, saying, "I'm not going to pay for that f***ing wall" — as Trump has repeatedly said he'll force America's southern neighbor to do. In response to Fox's comment, Trump claimed Thursday that not only will he make Mexico pay for the wall, he'll now make it even higher to prove his haters wrong.

On the debate stage, Trump said: "I will, and the wall just got 10 feet taller, believe me. Just got 10 feet taller. I saw him make the statement. I saw him use the word that he used. I can only tell you, if I would have used even half of that word, it would have been a national scandal. This guy used a filthy, disgusting word on television and he should be ashamed of himself and he should apologize." Trump has been criticized for his choice of words multiple times, and seemed more offended by Fox's cursing than what the former president had to say about his immigration plan.

Trump claimed that the wall will cost between $10 billion and $12 billion if he builds it and $200 billion if his opponents do. He also explained that the wall he wants to build on the border will be very high (especially considering that he's now increasing the height because of Fox's criticism) and needs to be 1,000 miles long, compared to the Great Wall of China which stretches for 13,000 miles. "This is a wall that's a heck of a lot higher than the ceiling you're looking at," Trump said on stage in the University of Houston auditorium. "This is a wall that's going to work."

When Wolf Blitzer asked the presidential hopeful if he would start a trade war if Mexico refuses to pay for his wall, Trump didn't hesitate. "I don't mind trade wars when we're losing $58 billion a year, you want to know the truth. We're losing so much." After listing companies that have relocated to Mexico, including Nabisco, Trump said he's boycotting the company's treats in a personal trade war of sorts. "I always say I'm not having Oreos anymore, which is true, by the way," Trump said. "But they just took a big plant from Nabisco into Mexico. They're taking our businesses."

Trump's more committed than ever to making Mexico pay for a wall on the U.S.-Mexican border, and apparently depriving himself of Oreos.
