Whoopie Wins The "Best Rings On The Carpet" Award

Whoopie Goldberg is the kind of celebrity who I kind of forget about for ages at a time, until she makes a public appearance and blows my mind in some way. At the 2016 Oscars, Whoppie Goldberg was wearing a Danes Of New York gown and some mega bling on her fingers. And the latter was pure genius.

The gown was a bit understated — the kind of plus size dress we're all more or less used to seeing on the red carpet. She told Ryan Seacrest, "My dress was made by the Danes Of New York, they’re a husband and wife team [...] they made this based on a dress that Betty Davis wore in All About Eve. They made it for me the way they felt I should be wearing it.” While I hope that means it holds a special kind of sentiment to Goldberg, I personally couldn't keep my eyes off her bedazzled hands.

She's wearing just the sort of retro-inspired ring/bracelet hybrids one can totally imagine seeing in All About Eve circa 1950. Statement jewelry can be a tricky thing to pull off — sometimes contrasting a little too heavily against elegant ensembles. But Goldberg is a total vision, balancing the neutral but oh-so-elegant dress against big bling fit for a queen.

Just look at that finger jewelry game.

Not to mention that this understated beauty look was just the ticket.
