What Melania Trump Disagrees With Donald On

Donald Trump's supporters are known for backing the candidate's rhetoric to a fault, but he does have at least one disagreeable voice in the sea of validation: his wife, Melania Trump. Melania recently said on CNN that she doesn't always agree with her husband, citing his language as a large point of contention for the pair. And in a race where the businessman keeps rising without much thought given to his contenders, it's perhaps this balance between husband and wife that will keep Donald from making one less media blunder (which is definitely still a big maybe).

In an interview with CNN's Anderson Cooper on Monday, Melania said that she disagrees with her husband on "many things," the first of all being the language that he's known for on the campaign trail. This hateful language that Melania addresses is the very thing that has kept his supporters, fellow politicians, and much of the media on their toes throughout the presidential race.

When Cooper pressed her for specifics, Mrs. Trump referenced an incident in early February when the GOP front-runner used the word "pussy" when talking about his opponent Marco Rubio. At a New Hampshire rally, Donald repeated the epithet after a woman in the audience angrily called out "pussy!" when the businessman mentioned Rubio.

Melania told Cooper that she was in attendance at the rally, and in that moment thought, "Don't repeat it... Don't repeat it. Just don't say it because the next day, media, all they will talk about is that." Sure enough, her husband repeated the word back, and as Mrs. Trump had predicted, the incident received widespread attention. She said that they went on to have a discussion about it the next day in which she voiced her disagreement.

But that same day in which he and Melania talked it over, Donald went on MSNBC's Morning Joe to defend his use of the word. He said: "I got a standing ovation. The place went wild. You’re talking about close to 5,000 people. It was a great moment. The world is politically correct." The businessman went on to say that it wasn't truly his words, likening it to "a retweet."

To this same effect, it seems that Melania knows that it would be pointless to try to change her husband. She told Cooper in the interview:

We are both very independent — I let him be who he is and he let me be who I am. I don't try to change him. He's an adult. He knows the consequences and so I let him be who he is. I give him my opinions, many, many times. I don't agree with everything that he says, but you know, that is normal. I'm my own person, I tell him what I think, I'm standing very strong on the ground on my two feet and I'm my own person, and I think that's very important in the relationship.

Perhaps most interestingly, even Donald's wife seems to believe that this type of language would not stand, were he to win the presidency. She noted: "To build the empire and the business that he did, you can't always use that kind of tone. He could really change the words and the tone."

Though he appears unaffected in the ratings every time he makes one of these statements, perhaps we could begin to see a change in Donald if he gets the GOP nomination, thanks to Melania.
