Niecy Nash Is Coming Back For More 'Scream Queens'

by Jennifer Still

I'll admit it — I didn't really expect to love Scream Queens. I'm not the biggest Ryan Murphy fan, and while the premise of a comedy-horror hybrid series based around a murderer in a red devil suit torturing a college campus was intriguing, I just didn't know if it would translate. My, how wrong I was. The first season of Scream Queens was one of the most offensive, obtuse, and downright hilarious shows I've ever watched and I absolutely fell in love with it. One of my favorite parts of the show had to be campus security guard Denise Hemphill, played by the delightful Niecy Nash, who's sass and attitude seriously cracked me up. If you're anything like me, then, you'll be thrilled to know that Nash is returning for Scream Queens Season 2, so we've got a whole lot more Hemphill coming our way.

The best news ever was confirmed by Nash herself via Twitter on Thursday, along with a promotional photo of a bloody hand advertising the second season. Beyond that, we don't know too much about, well, anything, but to be honest, do we really need any more reason to watch the new episodes than Denise Hemphill being in them? I don't think so.

The details about Scream Queens Season 2 have been kept under wraps so far, and we pretty much know nothing about what's to come aside from the fact that we're moving from a college campus to a hospital setting, "where some of the most fascinating and bizarre medical cases are under observation." That's got some serious potential! However, it's unclear which original cast members — besides Nash, of course — will be returning, if any, and in what capacity. It's pretty much a waiting game.

Whatever happens, if Scream Queens keeps up its Season 1 momentum, we're in for another batch of episodes full of some of the most outrageously funny and smart writing on TV. Knowing that Nash will be part of that once again is just the icing on the cake, and frankly, I can't wait to see what they've got up their sleeves this time around.
