Twitter Isn't Happy With Zimmerman's Boxing Match

In a couple of weeks, George Zimmerman will box DMX in a charity exhibition match. That’s surreal enough news on its own, but in an unsettling coincidence, the boxing match was announced on the same day as Trayvon Martin’s birthday: Had he not been shot and killed by Zimmerman, Martin would have turned 19 on Wednesday. The two events sparked a renewed interest in the case — although it’s not as if interest ever died down since Martin’s killing in 2011 — and #HappyBirthdayTrayvon quickly started trending on Twitter.

As Bustle reported, around 15,000 people volunteered to go toe-to-toe with Zimmerman, including rapper The Game. But Damon Feldman, the promoter, ultimately went with DMX, who seems rather intent on obliterating Zimmerman out of existence:

The New York-born rapper, real name Earl Simmons, is routinely listed as one of America’s most-arrested celebrities, and at 5”11 has four inches on Zimmerman. And he’s made no secret of his contempt for Zimmerman: “I am going to beat the living f— out him,” he told TMZ. “I am breaking every rule in boxing to make sure I f— him right up.”

“Once I am done with him,” added DMX, ”I am going to whip my dick out and piss on him … Right in his motherf—ing face. Zimmerman is a piece of shit and that’s what he needs to drink.”

Twitter quickly took to denounce the injustice of Zimmerman making money off of killing an unarmed kid.

Also, as Deadspin reports, the fight will probably be fixed anyway, thus eliminating any glimmer of poetic justice that the match might possibly have delivered. And, in yet another depressing coincidence, Wednesday was also the third day of jury selection for another “stand your ground” case in Florida.
