7-Eleven's Bring Your Own Cup Day Is Back

by Jessica Learish

Hey brain freeze fans, 7-Eleven's iconic frozen beverage, the Slurpee, is turning a nifty 50 this week, and for the second year in a row, the convenience store is celebrating the occasion with its 7-Eleven Bring Your Own Cup Day promotion for not one, but two whole days, between the hours of 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. on March 18 and March 19. That's right, you can bring in just about any vessel that you'd want to drink out of, and fill it to the brim with your favorite Slurpee flavor combination for the bargain price of a medium Slurpee, as long as it meets a few simple criteria.

I was coincidentally present for last year's BYOCup festivities while getting water to rehydrate after St. Paddy's, and saw a man come in with a sand bucket and a crazy straw to collect his XL serving of frozen goodness. Luckily, his enormous yellow bucket just met the requirements for huge-Slurpee street legality: it was sanitary, didn't leak, and could pass upright through a 10 inch-diameter hole provided conveniently next to the Slurpee machine in a cardboard display. Understandably, trash cans, traffic barrels, and kiddie pools will not be permitted to participate in this birthday celebration, and there is a one cup per person rule, for obvious reasons.

7-Eleven will also be selling special-edition Slurpee birthday souvenir cups, and introducing a brand new flavor — Airheads Xtremes Rainbow Berry.

But that's not all — Slurpers who snap can add a little color to their stories with the Snapchat BYOCup geo-filter, which will only be accessible inside of 7-Eleven stores. So, plan on treating your post St. Patrick's Day blues with a big, bright bucket full of Slurpee.
