Luna Lovegood Is Jealous Of 'Fantastic Beasts'

by Jordana Lipsitz

If you thought you were a big fan of the Harry Potter universe, you've got nothing on Evanna Lynch, also known as Luna Lovegood. In a recent interview with People, Lynch, talking about the HP prequel Fantastic Beats and Where to Find Them, said that she's jealous of people filming the movie — and could you blame her? The Eddie Redmayne-starring film sounds, well, fantastic, and Lynch, who spent eight movies on the Potter set, must miss the magic of working on J.K. Rowling-created movie.

Discussing the upcoming movie, Lynch told People, "Eddie Redmayne is going to be fantastic! He's definitely a wizard," before adding, "I do get a little bit jealous when I think of them filming right now. I miss it!" Same, girl. Sadly, Lynch probably won't even appear in Fantastic Beasts , despite the fact that Luna married Newt Scamander's (Redmayne) grandson Rolf, according to Rowling. It wouldn't have been completely crazy to assume that Luna would appear in a How I Met Your Mother-style narration or maybe a flash forward of Beasts, but unfortunately, this doesn't seem to be the case. Poor Lynch will just have to wait like the rest of us for the movie to come out in November.

Her excitement — and jealousy — is totally warranted, though as, after all, Lynch is seemingly one of the biggest Potter fans of all time. Remember, Lynch was just a fan of the series and not an actor when she auditioned for the role of Luna many years ago. As she wrote in a Facebook note last year, "I only went out of love for the books and a fierce desire to tell Luna's story the right way. But I was by all means, NOT ready or trained to audition for a role in a mega movie franchise."

Clearly, it worked out, and in the time since she first became Luna, Lynch has become a Potter superfan. She even shares a close bond with Rowling, who first wrote to Lynch when she was a young Potter fan struggling with an eating disorder. Wrote Lynch of their original conversation, according to The Sun,

"I told her the books gave me hope, particularly Luna Lovegood. I told how I looked up to her. She wrote back and was like a counselor. She told me anorexia is destructive, not creative, and the brave thing was not to succumb to it. I told her I'd love to be in the films and she encouraged that but said I'd need to be well to do so. In the end I think that's why I recovered."

The duo's friendship has flourished over the years. In 2014, Lynch even told fans of her plans to teach Rowling how to use emoticons, through seen on what may be the cutest Twitter conversation of all time:

Awww. A bond with Rowling isn't all, though; Lynch, like all Potter superfans aspire to do, has appeared several times at Universal Studios' The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. First, she appeared with former co-star Tom Felton at the unveiling of the Japan park. Then, this February, Lynch and other Harry Potter actors geeked out about footage of Fantastic Beasts at the Celebration of Harry Potter at Universal Studios in Florida.

Even more, Lynch was part of the recent announcement of the new Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Hollywood, opening this year. How cool is that?

Sorry, Harry Potter lovers, but it's hard to be as fan–tastic as Lynch is. But when it comes to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, we must all, sadly, wait together until November. Stay strong, everyone.
