Joseph Gordon-Levitt & Seth Rogen's Christmas Movie Should Consider These 11 Funny Females
The 50/50 team are reuniting for the Untitled Xmas Comedy . Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Seth Rogen, and writer/director Jonathan Levine will begin shooting the holiday film this summer, as reported exclusively to The Hollywood Reporter. The story is based around three childhood friends who get together every Christmas Eve in New York City. Plenty of nostalgia and hopefully a bit of debauchery will ensue.
50/50 was Levine’s breakout film about two best friends who face the 50/50 cancer prognosis of Levitt’s character Adam. The film only cost $8 million to produce and grossed nearly $40 million at the box office and was a critical darling in 2012. It struck a chord with audiences due to the performances of its stars and was equal parts gut-wrenching and funny. Xmas will assuredly carry the team’s penchant for balancing humor with life’s scariest moments — there’s nothing like the holidays and reuniting with old friends to stir the pot of insecurity, loss, anxiety, and lots of joy.
Xmas has yet to sign on the third lead for the best bud trio at the heart of the film, so we’ve got a few suggestions for some women we’d love to see snag the role. Spoiler alert: plenty of men and women are best friends and there’s no romantic subplot needed! By the sound of it, Xmas might actually be a most honest depiction of how the holidays are simultaneously the best and (mostly) absolute worst time of the year.
So let’s keep that realism going here and have more men and women as true friends on the big screen. Here are our picks for their third lead.

Anna Kendrick
Well we already know she’s got oodles of chemistry with Levitt and Rogen as she was the scene stealing counselor to Levitt in 50/50. Kendrick first caught audience’s attention in Up in the Air alongside George Clooney and became a BFD after starring in Pitch Perfect. So the gal can do drama as well as she can do comedy. She and JGL are also great singers, and nothing spells Christmas Eve hijinks like a karaoke scene.
Brie Larson
Short Term 12’s breakout star would be the puh-erfect fit for Xmas. I mean, can we just?
Kali Hawk
If Hawk can pull off out-cute-ing Zooey Deschanel in her own show, she can certainly go toe to toe with Levitt for heart-melting mega powers. Her fierce femininity would also be a great balance to Rogen’s signature sarcastic stoner boy style.
Emma Stone
Sort of an obvious choice, but c’mon a night out with Emma, Joe and Seth? That’s actually something that would make the holidays something worth looking forward to.
Lizzy Caplan
She’s one of the few stars in Hollywood who could actually out-scoff Seth Rogen. Her latest role as Virginia in the Showtime series Masters of Sex has proven her to be one of the most versatile actors working today. And we all know she’s hi-freakin-larious from her Party Down and Mean Girls days.
Riki Lindhome
One half of the comedy pair Garfunkel and Oates, Lindhome’s absurd and quirky humor would be a great infusion into the Levitt-Rogen duo.
Carrie Brownstein
It’s about time Brownstein takes the leap from TV into film. She’s just so watchable, charming, and Mensa-level smart. More Brownstein, all the time.
Rosario Dawson
Ms. Dawson has six, count ‘em SIX movies coming out in 2014. So needless to say she’s having a bit of a comeback year. I would love to see her back in the comedy saddle. She would bring a certain maturity to the role and make the movie feel more adult than “millennial.”
Sarah Burns
She was my actual favorite part about the film I Love You, Man. When I first saw it and Rashida Jones asked, “Oh my Hod Hailey, why does everything always have to be about you?” and she snapped back “Because I’m single!” I lost. My. Sh*t. She’s also all over Drunk History so we know she can handle a film with some good libations.
Rashida Jones
Which leads us to Rashida Jones! Celeste and Jesse Forever made me fall in love with Rashida Jones in a whole new way. It was one of the first films I’ve seen in a long long time with an honest depiction of a female protagonist dealing with disappointment and heartbreak. She was meant for those sorts of films and Xmas would be a fantastic opportunity for Jones to flex her dramedy muscles.
