8 Moments in 'Girls' Season 3 That Made Us Scratch Our Heads

HBO's Girls is six episodes into its third season and we have to admit— we're starting to resent these ladies. For a show that has flaunted its reputation since day 1 for realistically representing young adults surviving in modern day America, it continues to move further and further away from the actual truth. Aside from last night's last minute blowout between the four ladies, the season thus far has been like watching paint dry.

All four girls continue to act and make decisions that just don't seem realistic. Between Marnie sleeping with Shoshanna's ex-boyfriend and the girls destroying a weekend Marnie laboriously planned for them, the series is getting really out of hand — and here are 8 examples how.

Complaining about the meal your friend made for you right in front of her.

In episode 7 “Beach House,” we watch Marnie get taken advantage of by her three best friends and their mooching guests, especially when they sit down to eat the duck Marnie prepared for their girl’s weekend dinner. They poke fun at the duck and complain about the small portion sizes, which Marnie responds to by saying that the duck was meant for four portions, not the group that showed up. Really rude, guys.

Wasting two days of your friend's time.

In the second episode of Season 3, Hannah, Shoshanna, and Adam spend two days driving to Jessa’s rehab to pick her up after Jessa calls her asking to be retrieved, claiming Hannah needs to sign a release form. Upon arrival, they learn that Shoshanna lied and that she did not need anyone to sign a release form or even to drive her considering there is an airport close by. What a great friend.

Inviting your boyfriend's sister to your birthday party after he told you not to.

When Adam’s crazy sister, Caroline, shows up unexpectedly in episode 3, Adam is adamant about keeping her out of his and Hannah’s space and life. Defying her boyfriend, Hannah invites Caroline to not only stay with them in their apartment, but also to her birthday party, where she later causes a scene. Later on in the series, Hannah finds her in the bathroom where she decides to break glass in her palm. Guess you should have listened to your boyfriend when you had the chance, Hannah.

Complaining to your boss about how you hate your job.

Following the sudden death of her editor, Hannah learns that her eBook is not going to get published. She luckily gets a job writing advertising content for GQ Magazine but instead of swallowing her pride and graciously doing her work without complaint — because after all, she desperately needs rent money and hasn’t managed to hold down a job since we met her in Season 1 — she instead complains to the Creative Director of GQ that she’s a writer writer and can’t possibly waste her talent writing ads and quits. But then, she unquits because she realizes how dumb she’s being. I would love to ask Lena Dunham where she got the idea for this bit because no struggling writer I have met would ever turn down a paying job at GQ Magazine, especially when they have a life to afford.

Performing oral sex on a fellow patient in rehab after verbally harassing her for weeks.

This moment might take the cake for absolute absurdity in Season 3. After spending an entire episode verbally berating this poor girl, Jessa proceeds to call a fellow rehab patient a lesbian during a group therapy session and then sneak into her bedroom to perform oral sex on her—for which she gets kicked out of rehab. Does Jessa have no limits? No, she doesn’t.

Forcing your friend out of your hotel room to have sex with your boyfriend.

After spending the whole day traveling to pick up Jessa from rehab in episode 2, Hannah, Shoshanna, and Adam shack up at a hotel for the night. When Adam and Hannah not-so-discreetly start feeling each other up in bed, Shosh takes that as a cue to get the hell out. But, wait— what is this? College? Adam and Hannah couldn’t lock it up for one night, so that Shoshanna wouldn’t feel awkward sleeping in the same hotel room as them. Instead, she had to wait out in the hallway, waiting for Hannah and Adam to do the deed and zip back up. Not cool, guys.

Having sex with your best friend's ex right after they just broke up.

In episode 5, Marnie goes to Ray for some advice and ends up having sex with him. Mind you, only two episodes earlier, Ray and Shoshanna broke up for good. Are there no other men in a 20 block radius that you can hook up with, Marnie, other than your best friends very recent ex?

Inviting people to party in your friend's beach house without her consent.

For the cherry on the cake to last night’s episode 7, Hannah runs into her gay ex-boyfriend, Elijah, and has a baby dispute on the street about her bikini. Then, she proceeds to invite him and his gang of friends to Marnie’s mother’s friend’s beach house, where she is supposed to be spending a cozy weekend with just the girls. They all proceed to get drunk, learn a choreographed dance, and make fun of Marnie’s duck dinner. If only Hannah had been a considerate friend and stuck to Marnie’s plan. Apparently, that’s too much to ask.
