Here's The IRL Scoop On Katy Kat Matte Lipsticks

I popped into Walgreen's on Saturday night to grab a beverage before going out with friends. As is customary, I cruised the makeup aisle, because duh. I spied the Katy Perry x COVERGIRL Katy Kat Matte Lipticks on sale. I had toyed with pre-ordering the lipsticks when they were announced, but decided to wait. The drugstore display housed only a handful of shades and these pun-heavy, feline-named lippies were on sale for $7. I quickly scooped up the pinky nude Sphynx and the rosy nude Catoure and rushed back to my car to try them out.

I am an admitted gloss girl, but Kylie Jenner and her Lip Kits and Kat Von D and her Everlasting liquid lippies have steered me towards the matte lip trend. How do Katy Kat Mattes, which are lipsticks in bullet form, as opposed to a liquid lipstick you apply with a wand and dries down to a matte finish, stack up IRL and on my actual lips, as opposed to Perry's lips or the puckers of her pals? Here's the deal.

The Katy Kat Mattes are long-lasting. They are also creamy and moisturizing — they're not drying at all, which is a common complaint when it comes to matte lipsticks, especially liquid versions.

That said, the Katy Kat Mattes aren't as matte or as velvet-looking as the Kylie Lip Kits, but I actually preferred that.

This is me x Sphynx, which looks amaze when paired with smoky eyes and statement lashes. It offers the perfect contrast and balance.

I often refer to Kylie Lip Kits as "mega mattes" because they have such a rich, suede-like texture. KKMs aren't mega, but they are creamy and on trend. I also found myself reapplying my KKMs a few times, which is NBD. I like to renew my lip look with a fresh swipe of product throughout the day.

Comparatively speaking, Kylie Lip Kits don't budge and don't need any layering or reapplication during the day. This is me a few weeks ago, rocking the stay put Posie K Kylie Lip Kit.

This is me x Katy Kat Matte in Catoure, which is rosy and dark, by my standards.

I popped into Target the same night I grabbed my KKMs at Walgreen's and took advantage of the bright lighting for a photo opp. Another awesome feature of Katy Kat Mattes? You don't need to use them with lip liner. I applied Katoure sans liner since I was on the go, didn't have a pencil on me, and didn't feel the need to purchase another.

Overall, I'm totally satisfied with my Katy Katy Mattes due to the price, the creaminess, and the shades. They aren't majorly matte, but they are matte enough.
