Graduation Hairstyles For Curly Hair

by Rosie Narasaki

Graduation is nigh, and as such, it's time to start looking for hairstyles. Forget finals, and all the other end-of-year stress-inducers — figuring out your graduation look is way more fun. How should you wear your hair if it's curly, though? What are some graduation hairstyles for curly hair?

When they say the grass is always greener on the other side, I'd wager that it's never more true than when it comes to hair. Straight-haired people often want curly hair. Curly-haired people sometimes want straight hair. Frizzy, wavy-haired people like moi just want their hair to pick a lane.

Hair concerns aside, it can be a little tougher to find information on how to style curly hair, which is often frustrating. There are so many tutorials teaching you how to curl your hair, but so, so many fewer teaching you how to manage your existing curls, which seems strangely counterintuitive. After all, there are so many great looks that you can pull off if you have some curl to your hair — fetchingly undone half-chignons, flowing ringlets, ultra-romantic braids. So, with that in mind, here's a little list of hair tutorials targeted at curly-haired women, filled with looks that will work perfectly for graduation day.

1. Fit Your Mortarboard Over Your Curls

If you're rocking particularly big curls or natural hair, you might run into a bit of a roadblock when it comes to fitting your tiny, oddly-shaped graduation cap onto your crown. Luckily, this tutorial walks you through several lovely new 'dos, that all factor in the hat.

2. Keep It Casual

These easy-to-master romantic hair looks work just as well for the last day of school as they do on the first.

3. Leave It Down

This tutorial walks you through a few key products and tips to keep your naturally wavy-curly hair defined and frizz-free, something of a must for graduation day.

4. Do Your Hair In A Hurry

Almost all of these simple-yet-elegant looks would look great for your big day — with the possible exception of the high bun and the high ponytail, which it might be tough to fit a mortarboard over.

5. Make Short Locks Stand Out

Rocking a shorter 'do? Well, Luhhsettyxo has still got you covered with some seriously adorable styles.

6. Braid The Crown

Pinned-back hair like this is a great way to keep your hair out of your face, especially if you happen to be graduating out of doors.

7. Make It An Up 'Do

Sometimes, there's nothing more elegant than an up 'do.

8. Rock A Fishtail Braid

As long as we're talking braids, the popular fishtail look works great as well.

9. Create Bouncy Waves

If you're looking to switch things up, this tutorial shows you how to get those Victoria's Secret-esque voluminous waves, starting off with curly hair. Of course, you have to blow dry it straight beforehand, but it's still a pretty fabulous look.

10. Ponytail It

Low maintenance, chic, and practical.

11. Make It A Waterfall Braid

The waterfall braid is something of a graduation mainstay, and it looks AWESOME on curly hair.
