by Katherine Speller

The University of California, Los Angeles was put under lockdown Wednesday morning after a shooting reportedly occurred at Boelter Hall, part of the university's Henry Samueli School of Engineering & Applied Science, according to the UCLA Newsroom and UCLA's BruinAlert. Both AP and the Los Angeles Times reported that a UCLA spokesperson confirmed there were two victims and that the shooter hadn't yet been found.

Update: The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed that there are two deaths, and they are the result of a murder-suicide.

According to UCLA Newsroom's Twitter account, police had begun "sweeping the building, looking for a shooter" as of 11:15 a.m PT as students were escorted out to take shelter. The UCLA student-run newspaper, The Daily Bruin, reported via Twitter that the alleged shooter was wearing "a black jacket and black pants, according to police."

The LAPD tweeted at 10:30 a.m. PT that the city was on tactical alert with motorists and other citizens urged to avoid the campus area and with LAPD's bomb squad, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the L.A. Fire Department reportedly also on the scene.

Law enforcement also told the Los Angeles Times that "the motive for the shooting was not immediately clear."
