Change Your FB Pic To Stand With Assault Victims

by Jessica Learish

If you have been on the internet in the past few days, you've likely seen the outpouring of empathy and support for the woman who former Stanford swimmer Brock Turner was convicted of assaulting behind a dumpster in January of last year. If you're wondering how to change your Facebook profile picture to show support and stand with sexual assault victims, I'm here to show you just how easy it can be.

Given Turner's lenient prison sentence, it is beyond clear that there is a major problem with rape culture which is proliferated online. Turner's father proclaimed that six months in jail seemed a disproportionate punishment for "20 minutes of action," dismissing a sexual assault as a nonviolent youthful mistake. Turner's friend questioned the legitimacy of an unconscious woman being stripped and penetrated in the dirt behind a dumpster as rape because, apparently, "This is completely different from a woman getting kidnapped and raped as she is walking to her car in a parking lot. That is a rapist."

If you are tired of rape culture excusing the actions of attackers as hormone-fueled slip ups, head over to Twibbon to put that sentiment front and center on your social media. Here's how:
