'Central Intelligence' Could Start A New Trend

Kevin Hart and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson are an unlikely pair in Central Intelligence, a new movie from director Rawson Marshall Thurber. The comedy, in theaters June 17, finds Hart and Duo as former high school classmates who have to team up on a dangerous CIA mission. It's a uproarious take on the "buddy cop film," which makes one wonder if, eventually, Central Intelligence will have a sequel in the vein of Lethal Weapon, Bad Boys, and other movies in the same genre.

There haven't yet been any rumors of a Central Intelligence 2, so if there are plans for a sequel, everyone is certainly keeping mum. However, it may be possible that it's not yet known if a sequel would be feasible since Central Intelligence's performance in theaters remains to be seen. The movie had a $60 million budget, so it would need to rake in substantially more than that in order for a sequel to be a financially wise endeavor. Other things to consider would include the critical reception to the first film, as well as logistics such as the future availability of cast members. Here are some facts that would suggest that a Central Intelligence 2 sequel is not only plausible, but a very intelligent move.

The Preliminary Predictions Look Good

CinemaBlend's Doug Norrie predicts that the comedic chemistry between Hart and Johnson will garner a positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It is also worth noting that the film already has an average user rating of 7.6/10 on IMDB .

Thurber has already directed half a dozen films, but none of them have gotten sequels (although there was that Dodgeball 2 rumor for the longest time). Central Intelligence 2 could be the start of a new trend for the director.

Hart already played a "wannabe cop in over his head" type in both Ride Along and Ride Along 2, so he knows how to rock this kind of role.

The MTV Movie Awards Provided Major Exposure

Johnson and Hart made waves when they hosted the MTV Movie Awards together in April. It was a hilarious preview of the stars' presence as a comedic duo, therefore serving as a valuable promotion for the upcoming film.

There are a lot of different factors that will play into whether or not Central Intelligence gets a sequel, so you'll just have to wait and see how things turn out. But, regardless of what happens, the onscreen antics of Hart and Johnson are bound to be hilarious.
