Who Would Donald Glover Play In 'Spider-Man'?

by Maitri Suhas

Back in 2012 when the search for a new actor to play Peter Parker in The Amazing Spider-Man was ongoing, plenty of fans proposed that the role go to Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino aka Troy from Community, with the hashtag #donald4spiderman. As we all know by now, that role went to Andrew Garfield, but many fans held on hope that Glover would be given the role in the next reboot, and Glover himself told The Daily Beast in 2015 that he'd be honored to play the legendary character. Well, again, Glover wasn't cast as Spider-Man in the next reboot — but, there is some promising news! On Tuesday, The Hollywood Reporter revealed Glover is in talks to join Spider-Man: Homecoming ! So, if the deal does go through and his casting is confirmed, and if he's not up for the role of Spidey, who will he be playing?

Homecoming will star Tom Holland as Peter Parker. The film will focus on Spidey in high school, which explains the casting of Holland as the webby hero; the star is only 20 years old. I mean, yeah, Glover looks young, but he does happen to be 31 — too old for Peter Parker anyway. But since he's not playing Peter Parker, it's still a secret what role he will be in. So far the cast list is full of stars: Michael Keaton will be playing the villain the Vulture, who was in fact the first villain Spidey ever faced. Marisa Tomei is cast as Aunt May, the amazing Zendaya is the female lead, and Iron Man — aka Robert Downey, Jr. — is going to be dropping in.

If Glover isn't going to be Peter Parker, and he is too old to play a high schooler, then I hope that he's a baddie. He would be great as a comedic villain, and I want to see him in cahoots with Michael Keaton. There are absolutely no details on this yet, and it's likely there won't be until Marvel wants people to know. But whatever role Glover is playing, he's going to knock it out of the park.
