Jillian Finally Talks 'Biggest Loser' Controversy

by Kristie Rohwedder

What was going through Jillian Michaels' mind when Season 15 winner Rachel Frederickson walked out on The Biggest Loser stage? Michaels' and fellow trainer Bob Harper's facial expressions more or less said it all: Whoa. While Harper almost immediately addressed Frederickson's weight loss, Michaels has been tight-lipped about it... until this week: Thursday, Michaels told Huffpost Live that Frederickson's transformation shocked her and that she "lost too much weight."

Frederickson shed 155 pounds (60 percent of her body weight), and her weight loss left many viewers wondering whether or not what she did was safe. Evidently, Michaels thinks it wasn't:

We are allowed to speak with our contestants after they go home...but no one had told me, 'Hey, Rachel is very, very thin.' Bob and I had no idea. Nobody had told us, nobody had said anything to us, so yes, I was stunned. Obviously, I thought she had lost too much weight and I was immediately concerned and wondering how this happened, how no one had said something to me and how the checks and balances that have been put into place, in my opinion, this had fallen through those checks and balances.

Just Wednesday morning, Frederickson was on The Today Show addressing criticism surrounding the drastic change. “It was absolutely healthy weight loss,” she told Savannah Guthrie. “I dieted, exercised, and did it healthy the whole way. I appreciate the concern and I can see where it comes from.”

With two of the trainers speaking out against the show's "checks and balances" system, is a format overhaul on the horizon? It's a question many can't wait to hear answered.
