These Google Calendar Memes Are Everything

by Emma Cueto

What do you do when Google Calendar and.or Google Hangouts stop working? Well, since that basically means no one knows what they're supposed to be doing at any given moment — literally, because there is no Google Calendar telling us what to do anymore — the answer seems to be to share Google Calendar memes, GIFs, and jokes until the service gets back on its feet. I mean, what else are we supposed to do — try to remember our commitments on our own? What sort of pre-21st century wackiness is this?

On Thursday morning, Mashable reported that both Google Calendar and Google Hangouts were malfunctioning for many, although not all, users of the popular productivity tools, with Google Calendar being the most widespread issue. It isn't clear what's causing the problems yet, but hopefully it will get resolved soon. (Bustle has reached out to Google for more information and will update if/when we hear back.)

But if there's one thing that makes it clear that the internet revolution has been successfully completed, it's this: The fact that things that would have been perfectly easy to manage without Internet service only a decade ago — like, say, a normal workday — are now impossible if a key website goes down. What meeting are we supposed to be in? What office is it in? Was the conference call at 12:30 or 12:45? Who are we meeting for drinks after work? Where are our lunch reservations for this afternoon? Is that phone call today or tomorrow?

You know who knows? Google Calendar. You know who doesn't? Anyone else.

But hey, at least the rest of the internet is still functional so we can all freak out together — which is exactly what we're all doing right now on social media through an increasingly hilarious collection of memes and jokes.
