What Is A Starbucks Affogato-Style Frappuccino?

by Jessica Learish

Starbucks is releasing yet another summertime treat, and my sweet tooth is going absolutely crazy. The coffee giant and life force to millions is introducing a new beverage — which, if you want to get super technical, is actually a trilogy of beverages. It's called the Affogato-Style Frappuccino, but you might be wondering what is an Affogato-Style Frappuccino? It's basically Starbucks' take on one of the most perfect unions in Italian dessert.

An affogato is an Italian dessert made from gelato drowned in espresso. The word affogato actually comes from the Italian word affogare, which means "to drown." And the new Starbucks Frapp is just that — in fact, you probably see where this is going. While Starbucks is officially featuring Vanilla, Caramel, and Mocha Affogato-Style Frappuccinos, you can actually order any of its Frapps affogato-style with espresso dumped over top, creating a delicious looking marble effect. Top all of that with the optional whipped cream or add java chips, if you're feeling crazy, and you've got yourself a dessert topped with an energy boost. Saluti!

The Affogato-Style Frappuccino is available starting July 7 in the United States and Canada, and will be around through at least the end of the summer. So, next time you can't decide between a dessert and an extra caffeine kick, Starbucks has got you covered. Get a load of these beauties!

1. Vanilla

Ooh la la! Vanilla is no longer so vanilla.

2. Caramel

With a bonus caramel drizzle, this beverage is perfectly bittersweet.

3. Mocha

Chocolate and coffee are a match made in a sleepy milkshake-lovers' heaven.

I won't keep you here any longer — I know you have some Frappuccinos to attend to.
