Kristin Davis is Sorry About This

Sex and the City was a television show with an undoubtedly powerful cultural impact. Part of that influence led to many women worshipping at the altar of Manolo Blahnik and the high heel in general. And for that, Kristin Davis is sorry.

In a recent interview with the Telegraph, Davis admits to feeling guilty about encouraging women to wear stiletto heels.

“I do feel guilt about the heels,” said Davis, who admitted that she now wears flats as often as possible. "It did seem we were trying to say to women, ‘You should be wearing heels like these’. "But we definitely weren’t. Were they beautiful shoes? Yes. Were they appropriate for the characters? Yes, that’s what women like that wear. "But it became a bigger picture thing, where it seemed women should be wearing them every day.”

I'll be quick to admit, as former heels addict myself, that running around New York City in Manolos is probably not the best for your feet. Or your back. Or your ability to arrive anywhere on time. But I'm not sure the former Miss Charlotte should be losing too much sleep over her role in the cultural obsession. SJP probably shoulders more of that particular burden, given the fact that she changed the anatomy of her feet from hitting the Jimmy Choos too hard yet continues to perpetuate a love of heels with her new shoe collection for Nordstrom.

And while the Blahniks and the Louboutins were certainly a fun aspect of Sex and the City, the show made a greater impact on women than simply influencing their footwear choices. I appreciate Davis's concern, but there are more important conversations we can have about Carrie, Charlotte, Samantha, and Miranda's legacy.
