Pray For Baton Rouge Tributes Honor The Officers

by Celia Darrough

The United States has seen several tragedies over the last month, and Sunday morning's shooting that left several Baton Rouge police officers dead and several injured is just the latest. In a heartbreaking incident, more lives have been lost to violence. As we saw after the deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile as well as the officer deaths in Dallas, people around the country are sending their condolences to Louisiana with "Pray For Baton Rouge" memes and tributes for the officers who have died.

Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards issued a statement Sunday expressing his distress over the shooting and asking for thoughts and prayers:

This is an unspeakable and unjustified attack on all of us at a time when we need unity and healing. Rest assured, every resource available to the State of Louisiana will be used to ensure the perpetrators are swiftly brought to justice. For now, I’m asking all Louisianans to join Donna and me in praying for the officers who were involved and their families as the details continue to unfold.

And people answered that request online, sending messages of hope and peace over Twitter. Here are some of the images and tributes people have shared online.

Dallas Police Chief David Brown, who also recently saw the loss of his officers at the hands of violence, offered his own tribute to Baton Rouge.
