The One Hack Everyone With Thin Hair Should Know

Whether you have extremely fine or ridiculously coarse hair, if you don't have a lot of it, you may have run into a problem or two when you try to style it. For example, without a super thick head of hair, you may notice sparse areas when you pull your hair back into, say, a ponytail or other tight, slicked-back styles. But if you experience these sparse, or recession, areas where your hair doesn't appear as thick or full as it does in other areas, there's a quick and simple hack to make your hair appear thicker and fuller.

And if you enjoy filling in your eyebrows, you're going to love this trick from YouTuber Eleise. Essentially, all you have to do is fill in your hairline like you would your brows. After you determine the best powder match for your hair color — whether it's a powder eyeshadow, eyebrow powder, or even a bronzer — simply use a stiff brush (even the same angled brush that you might already use for your eyebrows will work) to buff the color into your hairline. Work in the direction of your hair, and use short strokes to deposit color. If you end up with any harsh lines that need to be blended out, use a slightly softer shader or pencil brush, and continue to sweep in the direction of your hair. The video below shows exactly how this trick works.

Of course, if you don't have time to carefully fill in your hairline in the same way as you would your eyebrows, there are some other ways to make thinner areas appear fuller. Try one of these four methods either alone or in conjunction with filling in your hairline so that your hair will always look thick, regardless of your style.

1. Rock A Looser Style

Besides showing off sparse areas, super tight hairstyles aren't even good for you anyway. Conceal thinning areas and even protect your hair by wearing it a little looser. Having pieces drape over your hairline instead of being pulled straight back will help hide any recession lines.

2. Try A Hair Powder

Loose powders or fibers can be sprinkled or sprayed on thinning areas to make them appear full again, and are especially effective on part lines.

3. Use Colored Dry Shampoo

Dry shampoo is already great for adding lift and texture so thin hair appears fuller, but a colored one can also help roots appear thicker. If you can't find a colored dry shampoo that perfectly matches your locks, try DIY-ing your ideal shade.

4. Sweep In Brow Gel

One of the best ways to tame troublesome baby hairs is with brow gel. Especially if you're going for a sleek look, not only will brow gel tint those baby hairs so that they appear darker and thicker, but it will also help hold those hairs in place. It's basically tinted hairspray.

After all, your hair really is just like your brows: It's totally cool to rock it naturally. But if you want to go a little thicker, just fill it in.
