This Susan Sarandon Moment Is Everything

Although the Bernie Sanders campaign has taken news of those leaked DNC emails betraying anti-Sanders sentiment with grace — "NO ONE STOLE THIS ELECTION!" ex-Sanders press secretary Symone Sanders tweeted on Monday — actress Susan Sarandon isn't so sure. Ian McKenna of NowThis News tweeted a GIF of Sarandon at the Democratic convention Monday evening, revealing the actress looking incredibly displeased with, well, everything. "[The DNC is] so disgusting," Sarandon said publicly on The Young Turks over the weekend, adding: "What does this really say about us if all of this [information revealed by the leaked emails] goes by unattended?"

Sarandon has openly aligned herself most closely with the "Bernie or Bust" movement, aka the notion that it's Sanders for Democratic nominee or nothing. A frequent and open critic of Hillary Clinton, she told TYT, "In a way, she's more dangerous" than Donald Trump. Sarandon has explained how disillusioned she feels the American public has become — "A lot of people are sick with politics the way it is," she explained to TYT this week — and implied that, whether it's Sanders or Trump, the next president must come along and make a real change. That individual, Sarandon has argued, is not Hillary Clinton.

Unfortunately for Sarandon, in spite of passionate opposition from Sanders supporters and delegates alike, the Democratic convention elite — Clinton, the DNC, even Sanders himself — have made sure that the convention so far been a strictly Clinton affair. Having already noted that his supporters must vote for Clinton to avoid Trump, Sanders has remained relatively mild in the face of leaked DNC emails that reveal an anti-Sanders bias within the party — even asking his supporters in a text sent Monday to please not boo speakers at the convention. He is also expected to officially endorse Clinton in a speech made from the floor this week.

High-profile Sanders supporters like Sarandon and Rosario Dawson went to the Philadelphia convention and continued to protest the party. "The critical question is, does it matter?" Sarandon told The Young Turks, according to The Hill. "Nixon resigned when they broke into the [DNC] headquarters ... and now you found out all this tampering went on." Meanwhile, Dawson told Sanders supporters at the convention on Monday that they should not be blamed if Trump became president because Clinton lacked support — the latter being an argument that many supporters, not to mention Sanders himself, have been convinced by.

Sanders supporters are expected to continue protesting throughout the rest of the week in Philly. One thing is clear: Sarandon isn't going to make it through to Thursday at this rate.
