What's Ginny Weasley Doing In 'Cursed Child'?

Ginny Weasley was a totally awesome underdog for a really long time in the Harry Potter books. But we get to see where Ginny is in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, and it seems she's doing a whole lot better than her 11-year-old self. When we first met the youngest Weasley, she was a sort of weird, shy girl who quietly hid her awesomeness behind her huge family. Remember when she was so obsessed with Harry that she couldn't speak in his presence, despite being such a motormouth everywhere else? Remember when she got possessed by Voldemort and opened a chamber which aided in the deaths/petrifications of several students? Yikes.

But Ginny pulled through it all and built a great life for herself, as evidenced by the latest addition to Harry Potter canon. If you don't want to have anything ruined for you, I suggest you Accio! yourself a copy of the Cursed Child script right now because there are about to be spoilers ahead.

First, some background: Cursed Child starts out retreading the grounds of the epilogue of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, which takes place 19 years after the Battle of Hogwarts. We see Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Ginny dropping their kids off at King's Cross on the first day of Hogwarts for Albus Potter and Rose Granger-Weasley. Ginny, who's married to Harry and has three kids with him, is as blunt as ever. She doesn't let her older son James mess with her youngest son Albus. Then, she promises to write every day and reminds him, "You may not want to believe everything he tells you about Hogwarts. He likes a laugh, your brother."

Through the rest of the story, Ginny continues to be a calm voice of reason while dealing with the troubled men in her family. Albus turns out to be quite the troubled teen, and Ginny has to deal with the issues that develop between her son and husband. At one memorable point, she forgives her husband for saying something particularly cruel to their son "because I know that when the time is right you'll say sorry... That what you said concealed... other things. You can be honest with him, Harry... That's all he needs." Ginny was always wise beyond her years, but now she's got motherhood-infused intuition to back it up.

Much like her own mother, Ginny is a warrior even after settling down with her family. A lot of the story involves the Potters, and Draco Malfoy, working together to rescue their respective sons and best friends Albus and Scorpius, as the boys travel through time with a Time-Turner to save Cedric Diggory from his horrible fate in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. During the whole adventure, Ginny always stays on point.When the whole gang travels back in time to Godric's Hollow to stop the terrifying Delphi, a character who pretended to help the boys but was actually just trying to bring back Voldemort, Ginny is the one to figure out exactly what Delphi is plotting.

On top of all of that, Ginny is also a successful sports editor for the Daily Prophet, which we find out when Draco accuses the Potters of using their media influence to spread rumors of Voldemort coming back as a means of "being prejudiced against those with a Dark Mark." Not only is still she able to keep up with the danger that the Boy Who Lived constantly seems to attract, but she's also got a awesome job... Even if the Prophet employed people like Rita Skeeter and still seems to primarily thrive on sensationalism if there was any truth to Draco's words.

It's really wonderful seeing what the whole team is up to in Cursed Child, but I have to say Ginny's journey is the most exciting — probably because it's the most relatable. While heroism seems to come naturally to everyone else around her (except maybe Ron, who's really just lucky), Ginny had to work to master it. She uses her intuition and skills to get ahead. She is the everywoman (or everywitch), and her journey to success is a beautiful thing to witness.
