Having Trouble Downloading Pokemon Go? Read This

by Kaitlin Reilly

If there's one game taking over the minds of '90s kids everywhere (well, pretty much everyone, from all decades), it's the new app Pokemon Go. The app is as addictive as the video games you played on your Gameboy Color or Nintendo 64 — but unlike Pokemon Snap!, which sent you on a virtual path in the Pokemon's world, this time the Pokemon are entering yours. The mobile app is an augmented reality game which uses your real world location as a map in which you can find virtual Pokemon. For instance: Hanging by the beach? You may just find a Magikarp chilling on the sand. Downloading Pokemon Go is the obvious choice for people who want in on this craze, so it can be super frustrating to find that you can't download Pokemon Go like all of your friends who are out catching 'em all. There are a few reasons why this could be happening, so before you start attempting to fix the issue, there are a few things that you should know.

Pokemon Go is still a relatively new game, so certain issues haven't been worked out for everyone yet. While there's a very real possibility that Pokemon Go will solve these problems in the future, here are a few current issues that may prevent you from downloading Pokemon Go without error:

Pokemon Go Isn't Available In Your Country Yet

Currently, Pokemon Go is available for download from app stores in the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Germany and the UK. Not in any of these countries? Unfortunately, it looks like you'll have to wait to start your journey towards becoming a Pokemon master. If you are in one of these countries, but are having trouble with the game regardless, contact the app store.

Your Phone Isn't Updated

According to PokemonGoDB, you'll need an Android 4.4 to Android 6.0.1 or an iPhone 5 or higher in order to be able to download and play the game. You'll also need a phone that is connected to a data plan, so don't bother using your old iPhone while you're on WiFi. Even if you can download the game, it won't be much fun.

You Don't Have Space On Your Phone

If your phone is clogged with music, videos, and other downloads, you might not have enough space for the new game. If you really want to play Pokemon Go, you'll have to make sacrifices — like all of those videos of your cat that you saved. I'm sure he'll understand.

Can't play Pokemon Go? There are still tons of other ways to enjoy that Pokemon life, even if that means dusting off your old Gameboy to play Pokemon Yellow.
