Amber Heard's Court Days Are Behind Her

by Nicole Pomarico

After a TMZ report claimed on Tuesday morning that Johnny Depp allegedly once wrote messaging on wall with a cut finger during a fight with Amber Heard, something totally unexpected happened: Depp and Heard settled their divorce outside of court. According to TMZ, each party's lawyers were able to reach a settlement, ending the actors' battle just before their next hearing was due to occur on Wednesday. After all of the complications of their divorce and their relationship have come out in the press since they first announced their split back in May, it's hard to believe that the whole thing is done right now... or is it? If their divorce is now settled, are Heard's domestic violence claims against Depp still moving forward in a court of law? (Depp previously denied Heard's claims of abuse through his lawyer, Laura Wasser, who told People in May, "Amber is attempting to secure a premature financial resolution by alleging abuse.")

The answer is easy: No. The divorce case and the domestic violence petition, in which she was requesting a restraining order, were tied together, so this settlement means that Depp and Heard are done seeing the inside of the courtroom to deal with this particular matter. TMZ claims Depp will pay Heard $7 million, including her attorney's fees, and Heard decided to take it. (Bustle reached out to reps for Heard and Depp regarding this claim. Heard's lawyer confirmed that the case has settled, but had no comment; we have not yet received a response from Depp's reps.)

According to TMZ, Heard withdrew her request for a restraining order and dismissed the case with prejudice, which means it can't be reopened in the future.

Heard and Depp released the following statement to TMZ regarding their settlement:

Our relationship was intensely passionate and at times volatile, but always bound by love. Neither party has made false accusations for financial gain. There was never any intent of physical or emotional harm. Amber wishes the best for Johnny in the future. Amber will be donating financial proceeds from the divorce to a charity.
