Anthony Weiner Finally Deletes His Twitter Account

by Melissa Cruz

Disgraced congressman Anthony Weiner has lived up to his name yet again by reportedly involving himself in a third sexting scandal. And this time, it includes a particularly disturbing twist. A leaked racy conversation between Weiner and an anonymous woman includes a photo of the former congressman lying in bed next to his four-year-old son. Hours after The New York Post leaked his conversation on Monday, Weiner deleted his Twitter account, because he's probably tired of it ruining his life.

The New York Post chronicled the back-and-forth between the former congressman and the unidentified woman, whom Weiner described as "literally a fantasy chick" in the alleged messages. According to the report, Weiner sent the photo during a conversation about massage parlors. "Someone just climbed into my bed," Weiner reportedly told the woman, before worrying that the photo of himself and his son (complete with the now-classic shot of the congressman's torso and white boxer briefs) had accidentally been posted to his public Twitter feed.

The worry wasn't for naught. The July 2015 screenshot was the backbone of evidence published by The New York Post, though Weiner told the publication that he and the woman had been "friends for some time." The exchanges date back to January 2015, and continue to early this month.

Weiner's (or his social media team's) decision to finally delete his Twitter account suggest that maybe this time, the disgraced congressman plans to own up to his continued mistakes and avoid further embarrassment at the hands of his DMs (his last sexting scandal resulted in a mere three-day stint in rehab, after which Weiner promised he had been made into a "new man").

After all, he seems to have a knack for having these things explode with the worst possible timing. His 2011 scandal caused him to resign from the U.S. House of Representatives, and his second scandal in 2013 seriously compromised and likely ended his comeback narrative as he unsuccessfully ran for New York City mayor. Huma Abedin, his wife and Hillary Clinton's top aide, has also unfairly seen her image suffer from Weiner's apparent inability to keep it in his pants.

Will this time be any different for the ex-congressman? As long as Weiner and his team keep his social media on lockdown, perhaps there's some hope. Unless, of course, he starts sending lewd photos through snail mail.
