19 Clever Jokes About Donald Trump's Mexico Trip

Donald Trump reportedly accepted Mexican president Enrique Peña Nieto's invitation for a private meeting in Mexico City, and the jokes about Trump's trip to Mexico were immediate. The meeting comes as President Nieto faces historic polling lows in his country, where Trump is also decidedly unpopular (just 2 percent of Mexicans want him to win the election), as Trump seeks to solidify his immigration policies.

Trump's decision to go to Mexico, particularly after his frequent criticism of the country and its people, is a bit bizarre. In a now-infamous 2015 speech, Trump proclaimed, "[Mexico is] not our friend, believe me...[Mexican immigrants to the U.S. are] bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists." He has called the Mexican government "totally corrupt." Hillary Clinton's campaign was quick to post a list of things Trump has said about Mexico and its people. There doesn't seem to be much love lost between Trump and the Mexican government, either. President Nieto has compared Trump to Mussolini and Hitler, and former president Vicente Fox also seems to openly disdain Trump.

No wonder, then, that The Washington Post has called Trump's trip "baffling" and "high-risk, low-reward." If there's any place on the Internet where people go to discuss absurdity, though, it's Twitter, which absolutely blew up after the trip was announced:
