Beyonce's 'Drunk in Love' is Everything You Need

by Alicia Lutes

Something I've noticed: The most ingenuous covers work well because they pair a song with something unexpected and in turn create a magnetism and enjoyment that is wholly their own. Such is the case with many of Postmodern Jukebox's cover tunes (remember Puddles the Clown's cover of Lorde's "Team"? Same guys!), but perhaps most successful — and sultry: g'head with that gravely soul Cristina Gatti, girl! — is their take on Beyoncé and Jay Z's "Drunk In Love," a.k.a. everyone in the world's current auditory obsession.

Feeling like it could've been at home on The Great Gatsby soundtrack, this rendition of "Drunk In Love" takes a decidedly sassier root in the big band/swing adaptation of the tune, honing in on the sultry sexiness inherent in the song and pushing it in a far more coy and playful direction. In fact it's so fun we're apt to believe that even non-fans of Beyoncé will get down on the take. Yes, even the grandmothers. And yes-slash-don't worry, the now-iconic uttering of SERFBORDT is alive and well in this rendition. Lead singer Gatti's dexterity shines in a different way from Queen Bey's but with positively delightful results.

So grab your best pearls and garter belts, swing along in your fanciest flapper dress, and take a deep dive into the bouncing rendition. There is approximately a 0% chance you'll regret it. I mean it's Beyoncé verdamnit! What's there to complain about other than absolutely nothing?
