'Fear The Walking Dead' Won't Be Gone For Too Long

by Laura Rosenfeld

In case you needed any further proof that the summer is over, this is it. The Season 2 finale of the late-summer favorite Fear the Walking Dead will be airing on Sunday, Oct. 2 at 9 p.m. ET on AMC, and it's sure to leave you wanting more... brrrrrraaaaaaiiiiinnnnsssss. Sorry. Anyway, once you process all of the heart-pounding action that went down during the episode, you're probably going to be wondering when Fear the Walking Dead returns for Season 3.

AMC has indeed given Season 3 of Fear the Walking Dead the greenlight. The network announced in April that it had renewed the series for 16 episodes, according to Variety. New episodes of the after show Talking Dead: Fear, hosted by Chris Hardwick, will also run following the return of Fear the Walking Dead. Unfortunately, the only thing close to a mention of a premiere date in the announcement was that Season 3 of Fear the Walking Dead is set to air sometime in 2017.

Well, that's better than no details about a premiere date, I suppose. Plus, that should be enough to keep you satisfied until an actual premiere date for Season 3 is revealed since 2017 is technically a hop, skip, and a jump away now that it's October.

Though there's no official word on a Season 3 premiere date, perhaps I can narrow it down a bit further. Season 1 of Fear the Walking Dead premiered in August 2015, but that installment only had six episodes, according to TV Guide. The first of Season 2's 15 episodes premiered in April of this year with a mid-season finale in May, a premiere for the second half of the season in August, and a season finale happening in October, TV Guide describes. Since there are 16 episodes slated for Season 3, I would expect it to follow a similar pattern to Season 2, so there's a chance it could be back in Spring 2017.

Unfortunately, there aren't really any deets available about Season 3 of Fear the Walking Dead just yet. No one from the cast or creative team is really spilling on where we can expect this series to go in the future. But the important thing to keep in mind here is that Fear the Walking Dead will have a future. Just take that all in for now.

But if you really need some more zombies in your life ASAP — in the entertainment sense, that is — you only have a few short weeks to wait. Fear the Walking Dead's predecessor The Walking Dead will lumber onto AMC for Season 7 on Sunday, Oct. 23 at 9 p.m. ET. Hopefully, this highly-anticipated season premiere will finally reveal who Negan was beating up with a barbed wire bat in that buzzworthy cliffhanger in the Season 6 finale. Finding out the answer to that question may even make you forget about Fear the Walking Dead for a while.
