You Can Tune Into The VP Debate On Apple TV

by Maya Parthasarathy

Tim Kaine and Mike Pence will be facing off at the one and only Vice Presidential Debate on October 4, and you won't have another chance to watch them go at it like this again. If you're like me, you'll be streaming the debate. Here's how you can watch the vice presidential debate on Apple TV.

Apple TV works by streaming digital content to your TV from iOS apps. You can either use the remote that comes with the device to control it, or an iOS device with the Apple TV Remote app (like me sophomore year of college when I lost the remote and had to use my brother's old iPod Touch). There's something else particularly nice about the Apple TV: even if what you're watching doesn't have an app associated with Apple TV, you can use Airplay to broadcast what you're watching onto the big screen.

My family adopted streaming early, with my parents getting rid of cable when I was in high school and subscribing to services like Netflix and Hulu instead. You can use your Apple TV like I did to watch movies and TV shows but the device is useful for catching up on current events and news as well. There are so many sources you can stream the debate from, and plenty are free even without a TV provider.

The debate will be broadcasted on major television networks and cable news channels, and Apple TV has apps for CNN, NBC, ABC, CBS, Fox, and Fox News. It will also be streaming on Facebook through ABC News, on Twitter through Bloomberg, and on Youtube through channels such as PBS, Telemundo, and the Washington Post. While some of these options may not be free without a service provider, others definitely are, so there is no excuse to not watch the debate.

Of course, it may get a little tedious to scroll through the apps, but if you have a fourth generation Apple TV, you can get Siri to do the work for you. Just hold down the Siri button on your remote and tell Siri to search for an app.

The debates are a must watch, whether you're unsure about a candidate's policies or you want to be on top of the latest political news. Kaine and Pence will be debating on Oct. 4 at 9 p.m. EST. The debate is scheduled to run for 90 minutes without commercial breaks, so have all your snacks and drinks ready beforehand. And don't forget to turn your Apple TV on so you can have your debate stream up and running, because you won't want to miss a single second.
