Kathyn Hahn Leaves Comedy for Shyamalan

by Maitri Suhas

M. Night Shyamalan making a movie about Alzheimer's. JUST KIDDING, but not really... the director, who's been laying kind of low since the failure of The Last Airbender and Devil, has apparently been making a supersecret "microfilm" called Sundowning which will start the hilarious (but probably less funny in this project) Kathryn Hahn, whose most recent project is Jason Bateman's Bad Words. It's the first time that Hahn will depart from comedy, which is exciting! But it's also M. Night Shyamalan, which is anxiety-inducing! Maybe the twist will be that Sundowning will actually be a good movie. Remember the glory days of Signs?! Where's a non-crazy Mel Gibson when you need him?

So far all we know about the film is some vague plot details, that it's filming in Philly, and that it has something to do with the mental disorder "sundowning." Plot details thusfar: "A single mother whose two young children visit their grandparents… and things go very wrong." Presumably Hahn will play the single mom? Or the grandmother, with face makeup a la in The Hours? Some thorough Wikipedia research shows us that "sundowning" sounds devestatingly sad: "Most commonly associated with Alzheimer's disease, but also found in those with mixed dementia, the term "sundowning" was coined due to the timing of the patient's confusion. For patients with sundowning syndrome, a multitude of behavioral problems begin to occur in the evening or while the sun is setting."

So, lots of golden hour shooting and evil grandparents. It sounds promising. What's Shyamalan's signature cameo gonna be? Maybe a director that finally gets his groove back? That'd be a twist for sure.
