This Designer Wants You To Get Hitched On a Catwalk

by Michelle King

Designer Annah Stretton has launched a contest like no other. No, she's not giving fans the opportunity to tour her studio or the chance to receive a custom couture dress. Stretton is looking to find an Australian same-sex female couple willing to get married on the catwalk this September.

Stretton's homeland of New Zealand recently passed legislation allowing same-sex couples to marry, and she's hopping her Come on Oz, Say 'I Do' contest will urge the neighboring country to do the same. "It will not only celebrate the fact that from August 19 same-sex partners will be able to legally marry in New Zealand, but will also encourage our Pacific neighbors to follow our lead and legalize gay marriage," Stretton told Vogue .

The winners will receive returns flights to New Zealand, bridal gowns designed by Stretton, outfits designed for the bridal party, and a wedding reception for up to 250 guests. The only catch: the couple must have their ceremony on the catwalk during New Zealand Fashion Week, in front of 1,000 people. Casual. Sure, not every couple wants to get married on the runway, but when it's for a good cause – and, uh, totally free — they might be a bit more tempted.
