School Asks 8-Year-Old To Dress More Like A Girl

by Adrienne Vogt

Well, this is awful: A Christian school in Virginia has told one little girl that she can be refused enrollment next year — because she looks too much like a boy. Timberlake Christian School apparently wrote a letter to the family of Sunnie Kahle, notifying them that the eight-year-old would no longer be welcome if she continued to wear short hair and sneakers, which apparently go against the school's "biblical standards."

The school wrote that even though Sunnie is a good student, her issues go "far beyond her hair length," according to local news station WSET. The letter continued:

Students have been confused about whether Sunnie is a boy or girl and specifies that administrators can refuse enrollment for condoning sexual immorality, practicing a homosexual lifestyle or alternative gender identity.

Basically, because the school has no idea what to do with a little short-haired girl, they want to get rid of her as quickly as possible. How's that for Christian values?

Continued the letter:

We believe that unless Sunnie as well as her family clearly understand that God has made her female and her dress and behavior need to follow suit with her God-ordained identity, that TCS is not the best place for her future education.

Sunnie's grandparents, who are her legal guardians, promptly took her out of the private institution and put her in public school, Still, Sunnie wants to go back to her friends at Timberlake, her grandparents say.

"How do you label a child — eight years old — or discriminate against an eight-year-old child?" Sunnie's grandfather, Carroll Thompson told WSET.

"How do you tell a child when she wants to wear pants, a shirt, and go out and play in the mud and so forth?" added Sunnie's grandmother, Doris Thompson. "How do you tell her, no you can't, you've got to wear a pink bow in your hair, and you've got to let your hair grow out long. How do you do that? I can't do that."

A week ago, school administrators in North Carolina banned a nine-year-old boy from carrying around a My Little Pony backpack, apparently because he was being bullied too much for it.

Seriously? This is 2014, right?
