Clinton Responds To New Email Investigation

At a campaign stop in Iowa, Hillary Clinton called on the FBI to release the full details of its renewed investigation into her emails, and expressed confidence that she will again be cleared of any wrongdoing when the investigation is complete. FBI Director James Comey wrote lawmakers Friday to inform them that the bureau had found previously-undiscovered emails that "appear to be pertinent" to the earlier investigation into Clinton's email server. The FBI reportedly discovered them during an unrelated investigation into the most recent Anthony Weiner sexting scandal, and is now looking into whether any of them were of importance to the previous investigation into Clinton's email use, which resulted in no charges against the former secretary of state.

"The American people deserve to get the full and complete facts immediately," Clinton said at a press conference. "He himself has said he doesn't know whether the emails referenced in his letter are significant or not. I'm confident [that] whatever they are will not change the conclusion reached in July. Therefore. it's imperative that the bureau explain this issue in question, whatever it is, without any delay."

Though Comey said that the emails are related to the larger investigation into Clinton's email use, the Associated Press reported that the newly discovered emails weren't actually from Clinton's private email server. It's still unknown who sent them, who received them, how they are relevant to the broader investigation, and whether they contain any classified or sensitive information.

"It is incumbent upon the FBI to tell us what they're talking about," Clinton said at the press conference. "We've made it very clear that if they're going to be sending this kind of letter that is only going, originally, to Republican members of the House, that they need to share whatever facts they claim to have with the American people."
