The 'Hamilton Mixtape's Release Date Is Very Soon

by Michelle Lulic

After departing from his lead role as Alexander Hamilton in the Broadway smash-hit, Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda is taking us back in time all over again with the release of the new Hamilton soundtrack: The Hamilton Mixtape. This time around, Broadway's record-breaking musical is coming at us in the form of a hip-hop concept album written by Miranda and produced in collaboration with Atlantic Records. Pre-sale for The Hamilton Mixtape begins Friday, Nov. 4, but when can you buy the Hamilton Mixtape ? The official roll-out of the highly-anticipated musical companion piece can't be far off. Update: According to iTunes when you go to pre-order to album, it is expected to be released on December 2.

Earlier: According to Billboard, The Hamilton Mixtape will be available in November. A November release date would mean that fans are already just weeks (or maybe even days) away from the end of the pre-sale. However, since only the pre-sale date has been officially announced, there is no definite date to mark on your calendar for when you can shell out your money. If anything, Miranda could continue to keep the anticipation high before dropping it at any given moment (Beyoncé-style).

However, if there's one date fans can hang on to, it would be that of Dec. 2. The U.K. Amazon page lists December 2, 2016 as the Hamilton Mixtape release date — despite no official release date being announced by Miranda himself.

If the U.K. is getting their copies of The Hamilton Mixtape in less than a month, the U.S. can't be receiving theirs much later. There's still a chance that Miranda will keep his original November release date promise. After all, this album has been in the works for quite some time.

"I thought of this as a concept album like Jesus Christ Superstar; that was an album before it was staged as a show. I wanted to write really dense, fun lyrics like my favorite hip-hop artists did," Miranda said in an interview with Vanity Fair. "I thought I would write a bunch of great songs that tell the greatest hits of Hamilton’s life, have artists cover it, and someone else would stage it later. When I first said, ‘hip-hop, Founding Fathers,’ they thought it was a spoof. But the show makes its own case."

No matter when the mixtape is being officially released, you can definitely get your pre-order in. Because, let's face it, do we really need to hear it before deciding whether or not it's worth spending money on?
