Twitter Explodes Over Rob & Chyna's Baby Name

by Amy Roberts

As the events of this week have proved thus far, sometimes surprises aren't always pleasant. And with that in mind, let's all nuzzle down in the comforting reliability that the lives of the extended Kardashian family can offer. Because, as expected, on Thursday, Nov. 10, Blac Chyna and Rob Kardashian welcomed their first baby to the world. And in true Kardashian style, Chyna and Kardashian's baby name is just as unique and bold as you could hope — they named her Dream. And I have to admit, I actually really like it. Yes, it's a little offbeat and sounds ever so slightly like the sort of moniker people ascribe to themselves on lonely hearts' message boards to get attention, but it's also so Kardashian. This is what I expect (and love) from them, and I'm totally here for it.

Because seriously, as an addition to the names of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's children (North and Saint), Dream works so perfectly. But more importantly, it feels more ludicrous to me that a child born to the extended Kardashian family in this day and age would be called a conventional, ubiquitous name like Sandra or Amy. But Dream? It is so them and it is everything.

Suffice to say, I think I'm very much in the minority in thinking this. And a quick scroll through Twitter sadly seems to confirm that, as exemplified by what some of those people have to say about Kardashian and Chyna's choice of baby name.

1. Some Couldn't Hide Their Utter Disdain

Oof — but using a Kim gif like that? Way harsh.

2. Others Couldn't Put Their Utter Bemusement Into Words

OK, I confess. For the first five minutes after hearing this news I was like, "They called their baby what?!" But now I've had a complete turnaround and think it's totally cute. There's hope for all of you yet.

3. Thankfully, There Were Also Some Who Recognized How Unique A Name It Is

It's so Kardashian, people. Also, I'm going dizzy over here just thinking of the vast expanse of the family's potential baby names of the future. That name pool is like a tiny, intricate universe.

4. It At Least Gives A Welcome Distraction From The Election

Which is something currently making me more grateful than words can even express.

5. Perfect Point. Well Made.

Finally, someone who can see my side of things. Cruel but fair.

6. Some Saw The Irony Of The Name Choice

I want to laugh at this, really I do, but I'm still too consumed by anxiety and frustration to even curl out a solitary, sad chuckle.

7. And There Were A Lot Who Thought Dream Kardashian Was Some Kind Of A Brand Or Product Name

It's a fair point. I'll allow it.

8. Like, Tons Of People

Is it too early to start speculating that Kardashian and Chyna may bring out a children's fashion line in years to come called Dream?

9. Someone Even Mistook The Name For A New Ice Cream Flavor

Yup, even ice cream got a shoutout. And I bet that particular ice cream would be the most luxurious, indulgent tub in history.

10. Others Were Just Grateful That Dream Is Another "K" Free Baby Name

Sorry Kim, Khloé, Kourtney, Kendall, and Kylie (I know, technically the last two are Jenners, but you get the gist).

11. There Were Some People Who Really Struggled To Get Their Heads Around It

Should celebrity baby name announcements start coming with a "FAQ" sheet to help the general public come to terms with unusual name choices? I'm in favor.

12. Some Were Completely Tickled By The Name

Dang, everyone knows I can't stare at Nick Offerman's delightful chuckle expression without completely cracking up myself. This is cruel.

13. There Were People Who Felt Some Intense Waves Of Disappointment

And to those people I truly don't know what to say.

14. Others Expressed Their Very Clear Views Through The Medium Of Music

Yeah, that's cool and creative and all, but what does Jessie J actually think about the name choice? And can she express it to us directly through song? Because that would be greatly appreciated.

15. It Inspired Someone Else To Build A Tiny Narrative From Kardashian Baby Names

I mean, it's not the best short story ever written, even by Twitter standards, but high fives for effort.

16. Thankfully, There Were Also Some Who Saw Sense

I completely agree. And as such, I officially declare this edition of baby name Twitter roundup closed.

Because come on guys, all of you know that you'd only be tweeting your disappointment if Kardashian and Chyna were introducing a Sophie or a Zoe or a Jenny Kardashian to the world right now, instead, right? I definitely would be. Keep on doing your thing, Kardashian family. You're truly one of a kind.
