How 'Raising Hope' Will End

by Caroline Pate

Friday will be the last we see Raising Hope as its series finale airs on Fox. But while the show's finale will be its last few breaths, don't expect anything terribly dramatic — it's not that kind of show. It hasn't been building to a How I Met Your Mother-esque conclusion. Hope is being raised pretty well; Jimmy and Sabrina are married and living on their own; Hope's serial killer mother is dead; and Burt and Virginia... well, they're still Burt and Virginia. This isn't the kind of show to have big, lingering questions. That being said, there's still a few things we'd like to see before the show is done.

Virginia Making Up with Her Dad

Virginia recently met her dad( played by Arrested Development's Jeffrey Tambor), and it did not go well. Apparently, Virginia's dad is a notorious snob who tries to buy people's affections. But according to the episode guide, he'll be making another appearance in the show's final episode. Hopefully, the two will be able to make up and finally have a real relationship.

Virginia Meeting Her Mom

Conversely, Virginia has never even met her mom. We saw her way back in season one, when we discovered that Maw Maw told Virginia her mother was dead to cover for the fact that she was actually a swinger who abandoned her as a small child. But Virginia never found out the truth. Maybe an appearance from her dad will solicit an appearance from Virginia's mom as well?

A Song from Shelley

Shelley, Sabrina's cousin (played by the lovely Kate Micucci of Garfunkel and Oates), was a fairly big character in the show's first few seasons. But since then, she seems to have just faded from the show entirely. While Micucci is probably just a busy woman, can we at least get a cute song on her ukelele in the show's finale?

Burt and Virginia

Burt and Virginia's relationship has often been the glue that holds this show together (sometimes to its benefit, sometimes not). Their marriage has always been a true partnership, and they've always been there for each other. That's why its fitting that the couple will get the wedding they've always wanted in the series finale.

Hope, Raised

There's always been a question in the background of this show of what Hope will be like if she grows up. Will she share her mother's serial killer tendencies? While answering this question would take many, many more seasons, it would be good to get a glimpse into Hope's future.
