2017 Grammys Winner Predictions

by Nicole Pomarico

2016 has been a rough year for a lot of reasons, but it was actually pretty awesome for music. Relatively recently, Beyoncé and Adele both graced us with brand new music, so what else could you possibly ask for? And now, it's finally time to find out who will be recognized for their achievements in music this year. On Tuesday, the 2017 Grammy nominees were announced, and it sounds like they're going to bring some tough competition. So who will take home awards next year? I have a few Grammy predictions of my own, but some artists are already expected to win.

There were definitely a lot of surprise snubs, as per usual — like Kanye West in the three biggest categories. How did that even happen?! But considering the fact that so many amazing artists are nominated, it's a given that there are going to be some great performances in store, even if my faves don't win. No matter what, it's going to be an interesting show, and I can't wait to see it all unfold next year.

Here are my predictions for who will go home with awards at the 2017 Grammys. We'll find out for sure when the awards air on Sunday, February 17.

Song Of The Year

This is a tough category — especially since it's just one of a few that pit two of my favorite artists, Adele and Beyoncé, against each other — but I'm going to have to give it to Adele. "Hello," the first single from her highly anticipated album, 25, was (and still is) all over the radio, and I can see this being just one of the awards she sweeps up on Grammy night.

Record Of The Year

Song Of The Year might go to Adele, but Beyoncé almost definitely has Record Of The Year in the bag. "Formation" was huge, and I can't imagine it not being recognized at the show at all.

Album Of The Year

No disrespect to Drake's Views — which is also nominated in this category and was also a killer album — but once again, I can't see how this category won't be between Adele's 25 and Beyoncé's Lemonade. Lemonade, with all its variety and its surprise release, was all anyone (especially me) talked about for weeks after the HBO special earlier this year. But in categories like this one, the Grammys tend to favor Adele. After all, she did win in 2012 for 21, so I'm pretty sure she has this one.

Best New Artist

Let me preface this by saying that it wouldn't surprise me a bit if the Chainsmokers took this one — "Closer" is universally everyone's favorite song — but I have a feeling it'll go to Chance The Rapper. And if it doesn't? He's nominated in six other categories, so this could be a big year for him.

Best Pop Solo Performance

I could be wrong about this, since "Hello" is set to win big, but I think this one's going to "Hold Up" by Beyoncé — especially if we're taking "performance" literally, since Lemonade in its entirety broke new ground where the definition of that word is concerned.

Best Pop Duo Performance

Chainsmokers and Halsey have this one in the bag. Like I said earlier, it's literally everyone's favorite song, and I'm still not sick of hearing it come on the radio, even though I should be.

Best Pop Album

I'd love to see Sia take this one for This Is Acting, but I can't see Adele's 25 not easily winning this category. 25 is flawless from beginning to end, and being that Adele already has 9 Grammys, it's obvious she's a Recording Academy favorite.

Best Urban Contemporary Album

It's almost a guarantee that Lemonade will win this category, although Rihanna's Anti is also nominated and could prove to be tough competition for Queen Bey.

Best Rap Song

Kanye West is nominated twice in this category — for "Famous" and "Ultralight Beam" — so based on statistics alone, this category should be an easy win for him. However, Drake's "Hotline Bling" is also nominated, and I don't have to tell you that song has been a huge hit. So who will snag it? My bets are on Drake.

Best Rap Album

Drake may get Best Rap Song, but it's likely that West will easily win Best Rap Album for "The Life Of Pablo." Sorry, Aubrey.

Best Music Video

Being that Lemonade was, perhaps, both the longest and best music video of all time, this one will almost certainly go to "Formation." Do I even need to explain why?

I'm excited to see if these predictions are correct — and to see whether Bey or Adele sweeps up the most awards. See ya in February!
