This Ugly Christmas Sweater Costs $30,000

by Jessica Thomas

In a very typical "millennials co-opting a trend and making it their own" series of events, ugly Christmas sweater parties are becoming the norm. Although the "ugly" Christmas sweater trend seems to have started because people were making fun of their parents' retro holiday sweaters, it's become a full-blown phenomenon. After all, when Swarovski gets involved in this kind of trend, you know it's probably here to stay.

That's right, the mega-famous crystal company teamed up with ugly Christmas sweater company Tipsy Elves on an insanely over the top sweater — it costs a whopping $30,000. The self-proclaimed "World's Most Expensive Ugly Christmas Sweater" (and I can't imagine there's a more expensive one out there...) is decked out with 24,274 Swarovski crystals and took 52 hours to make. Insane, right? If you're a fan of Good Morning America, you can see the sweater in person on its show this Friday, Dec. 16. But if you don't regularly tune into GMA, I've got all the photos you need to see just to get an idea of how awesome this sweater is.

The good news is that you can still get a Swarovski and Tipsy Elves sweater even if $30,000 is a little out of your price range. At $139, they're a lot easier on the wallet than the $30,000 option.

But it's pretty cool looking, right? That's a lot of sparkles. Unfortunately, $30,000 is about what you'd spend on a car, so I'm probably going to have to go for the less expensive options.

My dog-loving self is absolutely obsessed with this adorable Chihuahua sweater.

Although I'm probably not going to be buying a $30,000 sweater this holiday season, it's good to know these adorable sparkly alternatives are out there.
