Wanna Eat Brownies With Idina?

by Mallory Schlossberg

In today's "stars, they're just like you" news, Idina Menzel says she'd stay home and eat brownies while watching romantic comedies.... if she didn't have a job. So, let's give her a high five for having self control because even those of us with jobs like staying home and eating brownies. I'd move a mountain for food.

But hold up a second — we're talking about how she would have coped with being single had she not had to stay in tip-top vocal form for her job, which is indeed, vocally demanding. (Have you tried singing "Let It Go" in the shower?)

In fact, she said:

If I didn't have a job...I'd be home eating a tray of brownies and, you know, watching sad romantic comedies and Bridget Jones-ing it out.

We all know that Broadway's If/Then star has incredible skill; she's actually the first Tony winner (she won in 2004 for her gravity defying — haha, get it? — performance in Wicked) to hit the top ten charts, as she has done with "Let It Go" from the likely-to-be-record-breaking Frozen soundtrack. But what we might not know is she has been coping with her newly single life. In December, she and Taye Diggs, who she met when she was 25 and starring in the Broadway musical Rent alongside him, called it quits after 10 years of marriage.

It'd be hard to wallow in sadness, though, since her career has skyrocketed in tandem with the split. In fact, the 42-year-old actress has hit a career high point and become a household name at a time when most women wouldn't see it foreseeable to reach such heights. Menzel said:

I think it's cool to be in your 40s and people first be discovering you [...] because as a woman, you know, you always think you're racing against time. So that feels nice. And to have this demographic that's so not my age sometimes, it's very special.

Agreed! And what could be more empowering then your anthem — the one you get to sing at the Oscars (damn, girl) — having a theme of strength, and, you know, letting things go? Perhaps that's a mantra powerful enough to pass on the brownies. (Maybe that's a self-control tip? Every time you pick up a brownie, you sing "Let It Go"?)

OR — just watch her sing the song in all of her glory:
