Clint Eastwood's 'Jersey Boys' Trailer Is Awesome

by Jenny Jaffe

Though just earlier today I was lamenting the fact that movies are so rarely as good as their trailers, the just-released trailer for the upcoming movie-musical Jersey Boys is seriously awesome. The film, which is based on the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical of the same name, boasts no big-name stars besides Christopher Walken- in fact, most of its cast was plucked directly from the stage musical! I think this speaks highly of how good the film will be. If we learned one thing from Les Miserables, it's don't hire a screen actor to do a stage actor's job. Russell Crowe's thoroughly uncomfortable rendition of "Stars" still haunts me like a waking nightmare.

Jersey Boys tells the story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, a 60's rock group best known for hit songs like "Big Girls Don't Cry", "December, 1963 (Oh What A Night)", and their pre-emptive cover of Heath Ledger's "Can't Take My Eyes Off You", from their initial formation to their massive stardom and eventual, inevitable break up. While a Clint Eastwood-directed musical may sound completely insane, the story is rife with mafia crime, salacious sex scandals, and bleak truths about human nature, so the material can easily earn its place next to Million Dollar Baby and Mystic River, if handled correctly.

Check out the trailer below— do you think we'll be seeing it at the 2015 Oscars?
