America's Best Rapping Newsman is Back

by Kadeen Griffiths

Who's your favorite rapper? If you said Drake, Snoop Dogg, Jay Z, or Eminem, then you clearly haven't heard about Brian Williams. Williams has been the anchor of the NBC Nightly News since 2004 and has appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon in a sketch called Slow Jam the News, which is exactly what you think it is. However, thanks to Fallon, Williams could also launch a fairly successful rap career if he wants to. He's performed everything from "Good Vibrations" to "Rapper's Delight" thanks to Fallon's hopefully well-paid team of video editors. The latest Brian Williams rap is "Gin and Juice" and it is amazing.

The Tonight Show has already displayed their fondness for the song when Fallon did a cabaret cover of "Gin and Juice" with Anne Hathaway, but that was in a completely different league than the Brian Williams mashup. They combine clips of Williams' news broadcasts and then autotune them to fit the melody of the song, resulting in what is pretty much the best music video since Drake and his dad appeared together in the video "Worst Behavior". Williams also appeared as a guest on the show Monday night, where he addressed his budding rap career.

"Jimmy, every night, I'm downstairs, doing the broadcast that plays for your hobby, and people think I have somehow colluded into the making of these videos." said Williams. "...You've done this to me now seven times... I would like some pride of authorship."

He then went on to suggest some other songs he would like to cover, including Foxy Brown and "any Luda[cris]". If he was upset about the rap videos at all, he certainly didn't show it except to repeatedly mention that he had never said hippity, like the video for "Rapper's Delight" might have fooled people into believing. There was no word on when the first studio album of Brizzle, the artist formerly known as Brian Williams, is going to drop, but it's going to be the highest selling cover album since Glee.
