Gwyneth Vs. All-Purpose Cleaner: Round 1

by Lia Beck

Gwyneth Paltrow and Jessica Alba are in a feud and it's the subtlest feud that has ever happened. Gwyneth Paltrow's website Goop reviewed Jessica Alba's Honest Company products and they didn't do so well. The Honest Company's All-Purpose cleaner got a "C" rating! Gasp! But because this is the subtlest feud ever, there was more going on than that. Do you really thing Paltrow herself would come right out at give a product made by Alba's company (that you probably didn't even know she had before just now) a bad grade? No! Of course not!

In a post titled, "The Dirty on Getting Clean," Paltrow wrote a note at the beginning explaining her concern for using "clean" products on her body and around her home. She says, "Many of the 'clean' products I proudly use (and have even touted on goop) have turned out to be a product of marketing, rather than actually safe." Then she signs off saying that she's jet lagged and in Hong Kong.

The actual article gives the rundown of which products really are safe in the eyes of Goop using information from Beautycounter founder Gregg Renfrew and a website called EWG.org. Just to be clear, the ratings are based on an expert and factual information, not Paltrow saying, "The Honest Company SUCKS!"

Long story long, Renfrew and EWG lead Goop to believe that The Honest Company gets a "C" and is listed in the category "What We Were Using A Goop" instead of "What We Are Using At Goop." Oh snap, Gwynie! You told her! Alba is probably at home crying and coming up with her next move. A move, of course, that will be so indirect Paltrow won't even know it was Alba insulting her.

You should know that Alba was the one that started this whole not-thing. According to Us Weekly, Alba said when promoting her lifestyle book in 2013, "Gwyneth Paltrow probably lives a very similar lifestyle, but I didn't grow up with a bunch of money, so my tips are much more grounded: repurposing things and making things at home."

Actually, that's pretty forward. Paltrow should at least have had her ghostwriter use researched facts to give Alba a 'D'.
